Gunman Shoots and Kills Three GLBT Teens in Tel Aviv
District 202 would like to acknowledge our sympathy to the victims of this horrible tragedy
On Saturday August 1st, a gunman walked into a GLBT youth center in Tel Aviv, shot and killed three youth and left eleven wounded. This tragedy shook GLBT communities in Israel, around the world, and many of us at District 202. Violence against GLBT adults is unfortunately nothing new, and recently these hate crimes extended to vandalism at a GLBT youth center in Long Island. Violence against anyone is evil, but violence against our youth generation is especially sinister.
District 202 would like to acknowledge our sympathy to the victims of this horrible tragedy, and to their families and friends also affected. We stand is solidarity with GLBT communities in Tel Aviv and across the globe who have sent their prayers, thoughts and condolences..
Acts of violence are often reminders that not only is there still work to be done, but that communities of people must stand together, take action and make the world a better place. A place of peace and acceptance.
We’d also like to thank Rabbi Michael Latz and the members of Shir Tikvah Congregation in Minneapolis for their moving service this evening (August 3rd). If you would like to include your condolences with a special banner that will be sent to that Tel Aviv center, please email them to (JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).
