Donate!
Your gifts help District 202 create and manage empowering programs by and for GLBT youth six days a week. Support from individual donors is critical. We count on donations from individuals for almost 40% of our annual budget.

Designate District 202 in your workplace giving campaign!
You may designate District 202 to receive your donation through any private, local, state or federal employee giving campaign. District 202 is a member agency of Community Solutions Fund and the Combined Federal Campaign (agency number 5350). For United Way, check "Non-United Way Agency" and write in District 202, 1601 Nicollet Ave. S., Minneapolis, MN 55403.

Volunteer!
District 202 relies on the skills and energy of many committed youth and adult volunteers to reduce expenses and keep the center running smoothly. Go to volunteer opportunities to find out about volunteering at District 202. Contact Shiney Shapiro at s.shapiro@dist202.org for more information.

Double your gift!
Many employers match their employees' charitable giving and volunteerism. Please check with the Human Resources department at your workplace to see if your employer will match your gift.

Make a monthly donation!
Spread out your gift by pledging a monthly donation to District 202. Monthly donations may be given via credit card or electronic bank withdrawal.

Donate appreciated assets!
Gifts of appreciated securities that have been held for more than 18 months may be deducted at full market value on the date of transfer to District 202. When you give District 202 a gift of stock that has increased in value you:

  • claim a charitable gift deduction on your current year taxes
  • don't pay capital gains taxes you would owe if you sold the stock yourself
  • don't pay broker fees on the sale

To receive the full tax benefit, it is important to donate your appreciated stock directly to District 202 and have us, a 501(C)(3) tax-exempt organization, sell it.

Here's an example:
Five years ago you purchased 175 shares of Bebop Co. at $15 per share. If you were to sell that stock today for $60 per share, you would pay a 20% capital gains tax on $7,875, the dollar difference between the value of the stock when you bought it and when you sold it.

If you sell the stock yourself and donate the proceeds to District 202:
$10,500 value of 175 shares of Bebop at $60 per share
$(1,575) minus 20% capital gains taxes on the increased value of the stock
$8,925 your tax deductible charitable contribution
This is the amount of your donation that you can claim as your deduction, and the amount that you would give to District 202.

If you donate the stock to District 202:

$10,500 value of 175 shares of Bebop at $60 per share
$0 capital gains tax
$10,500 your income tax deduction
This is the amount going to District 202 and the amount you can claim as your deduction.

Donate goods and services!
District 202 receives many donated good and services. This helps us put more of our dollars toward programming. Office supplies, art materials, film, coffee, printing, graphic design, photography and airfare are examples of donated goods and services that help District 202. Check out our wish list to see our current needs.

Give through your business!
Business gifts support safe, empowering programs by and for GLBT youth while providing visibility for your business in the community. For more information on giving through your business contact Laura Ayers.
